The recent Singapore Yachting Festival was a resounding success, attracting over 9,000 attendees who were treated to a spectacle of 55 yachts and 74 exhibitors. The event marked the much-anticipated return of yacht shows in Asia. One of the highlights was the unveiling of the BRABUS Shadow 500 Cabin and the Axopar 22 T-Top by Derani Yachts, making their debut in Singapore.
A noteworthy feature of the festival was the ONE°15 Marina Club’s extensive $7 million renovation in Sentosa Cove. This marina, one of three in Singapore catering to superyachts, underwent the renovation primarily to enhance berthing efficiency. General Manager Jonathan Sit expressed that the demand for larger boats became evident shortly after the marina’s opening in 2007.
Local brokers were selling vessels in the 24-30 meter range, but the marina could only accommodate boats up to 18 meters. Recognizing the need to adapt to market demands, the renovation successfully increased berthing capacity by 18% per berth and doubled the number of superyacht moorings. Despite these significant improvements, the marina is already operating at full capacity, with a waiting list of approximately 80 vessels.
This shortage of available berthing space is expected to worsen as luxury yachts in Asia continue to grow in size. Prominent builders in the region, such as Taiwan’s Horizon Yacht and Fleming Yachts shipyards, contribute to the rising demand for berths.
Turning back to the festival’s highlights, the BRABUS Shadow made a lasting impression by embarking on a remarkable journey of over 1,000 nautical miles from Phuket to Singapore and back, braving challenging seas. The awe-inspiring superboat attracted attention with its gorgeous glacier blue camo wrap, cutting-edge technology and mesmerizing performance, captivating the crowd throughout the three-day event.
Another standout at the festival was the highly acclaimed Axopar 22 T-Top, which made its premiere in Singapore. This vessel, renowned for its exceptional performance, comfort, and convenience, garnered significant interest from boating enthusiasts seeking year-round adventures on the water.
The resounding success of the Singapore Yachting Festival underscores the immense interest in the marine lifestyle in Singapore and the broader region. It serves as a testament to the continuous growth and maturation of the yachting industry, signaling an exciting future ahead.
Derani Yachts will be exhibiting at the Singapore Yachting Festival, taking place from 27 – 30 April 2023 at the ONE° 15 Marina Sentosa Cove.

Monaco Yacht Show
Håkan will be visiting the Monaco Yacht Show and is available by appointment to visit our collaborating partners in the superyacht sector.
Following Derani Yachts appointment as the Fleming Yachts Agent for Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, Håkan and Ian recently spent four days in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, visiting the Fleming Yachts production yard. During their time there they attended the seatrial of a brand new Fleming 55 prior to it being shipped to Australia and were given a tour of the Fleming production yard.
Fleming yachts have been built in the Tung Hwa yard, located just outside the busy port of Kaohsiung since 1985 when Tony Fleming selected it as the location to build the first boat of his new design. At the time Tung Hwa was building other boat brands as well but over the years as the Fleming business grew, Tung Hwa has dedicated itself to building Flemings exclusively.
In January of 2005 Tony handed over the day to day running of the yard to his nephew Adrian Shard, known as Adi, and Duncan Cowie. Tony took delivery of hull number one of his newest design, the Fleming 65, which he named Venture. He has since then cruised more than 48,000 nautical miles, exploring and writing cruising articles. To read more about Tony’s adventures and voyages click here.
Adi moved to Taiwan In 1998 and joined Tony at the Tung Hwa facility and has worked full time at the yard for the past 17 years. He speaks fluent Mandarin as well as the local Taiwanese dialect, which greatly simplifies communications between the Fleming staff and the Tung Hwa workers.
Duncan is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Fleming Yachts including service and liaison with its dealers. He has spent much of the last 14 years in the yard specializing in the design and implementation of modern systems and liaising with suppliers of related equipment but also travels extensively to boats shows and dealers worldwide.
The yard employs around two hundred highly skilled craftsmen, cabinet makers and artisans, many of whom have worked there since production first began. Every boat built at the yard spends the last stage of its production in a huge test tank in order to check all of the vessel’s systems and equipment before leaving the factory.
Upon arrival at the offloading port Duncan, or another member of the Fleming yachts team, meets the local brand representative and delivers the boat to its home port. After a full system check the new owner is given a complete and thorough handover which covers all the onboard equipment and systems as well as instruction on boat handling while under way, anchoring and docking. This 4 to 5 day handover is only complete when the new owner is happy with all facets of their new yacht.
Derani Yachts is pleased to announce their appointment as the new Sales & Service representative for Fleming Yachts, covering Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.
Derani Yachts is ideally located in the Phuket Boat Lagoon and provides a full range of services including new boat sales, brokerage, service, yacht delivery, commissioning, and management. Derani Yachts benefits from extensive experience and a depth of local resources available to all Fleming owners cruising in South East Asia.
“Derani Yachts has a very loyal clientele with many repeat customers. This patronage comes from trusting relationships, where customer’s needs and interests are emphasized and attended to” says Håkan.
Fleming Yachts offers four models: the Fleming 55, 58, 65 and 78. These semi-displacement, raised-pilothouse motor yachts are considered to be “The Ultimate Cruising Yachts” by boating journalists and yachting enthusiasts throughout the world.
